1st Annual National Park Service and United Way of the Laurel Highlands Day of Caring
The 1st Annual United Way/National Park Service Day of Caring activity will take place on Earth Day, Sunday,
April 22, 2012.
This activity is open to college students who wish to lend a hand to help spruce up one of our local national parks.
Students will need to report to their assigned location by 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 22nd. It is important to dress appropriately for outdoors work (no open toe shoes) and don’t forget to bring work gloves. Volunteers are encouraged to bring small coolers with non-alcoholic beverages to keep them hydrated during their activity. All work will finish up by 12:30 p.m.
You can sign up for one of two locations. Your registration will be verified via e mail by the United Way. If you are unable to participate, please notify the United Way.
The Allegheny Portage Railroad NHS - Route 22, take the Summit Exit, turn right, travel about ¼ mile and turn left into the picnic area. We will be meeting at the Picnic Area pavilion. (this site is limited to 20 volunteers)
The Johnstown Flood National Memorial - Take US Route 219 to the St Michael/Sidman exit. At the end of the exit ramp head East on PA 869 (there is a park sign at the end of the exit ramp). Travel approximately ¼ mile on PA 869 and turn left onto South Abutment Road, and then make the first left onto Picnic Area Road. We will be meeting at the Picnic Area pavilion.
