WOMEN UNITED® Kickoff Event

Our sincere THANK YOU to the enthusiastic group of 134 women who gathered at UPJ on May 9th to kickoff the United Way of the Laurel Highlands new WOMEN UNITED®.  Women leaders from all walks of life gathered to hear about the Council's, goals and objectives.

Michelle Deputy Secretary of the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning, addressed the key focus areas of WOMEN UNITED® which are Early Childhood Development and Parental Engagement.

Michelle Figlar

Participants learned from Council members about the goals of preparing all children socially, emotionally and academically for kindergarten, as well as increasing parental knowledge of child development and care.  These challenges are addressed through the United Way's support of Nurse Family Partnership and Parents as Teachers.  To see the slide presentation from Michelle Figlar please click here.

An Advocacy Update was provided to encourage all participants to advocate for Women United focus areas and to become more familiar with our state legislators. The Women enjoyed networking and a lovely array of appetizers, drinks, and dessert, as they learned how to become involved in the upcoming activities.
